The smart beginning of a new era
Recently different types of conferences, seminars or other social programs have become remarkably popular. This is because, on such arrangements we can acquaint with the exact thinking of our social leaders, we can make effective plans and can start a new novel campaign. I attended one such effective program on November 10, 2010, in the Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) campus. The program was for the farewell of the Student of Criminology and Police Science Department (CPS) first batch and orientation of CPS seventh batch. On the occasion, the ASP of Tangail district was invited as a special guest. I would like to signify this program as a prolific one because, the ASP shared some of his dangerous and painful experiences with us (which would not be so pathetic if they could have the criminological knowledge before) and the main point is, he expressed one of his wishes with us which can be the most effective step to update the police personnel's skill in our country.
According to him, all the police personnel learn many things through their job field. This means, in their training, they learn some basic knowledge from an ancient curriculum. They don't know about the root facts related with crime and criminals. As, criminology, crime, criminals, law and justice, society and the social people, all are interrelated, they should know the necessary information. Keeping this in mind, he said, he desired to take classes from our teachers in our Criminology and Police Science (CPS) department. But it could be possible only if the administration allows it.
After this program, we some of the students of CPS department think that it can be a main staircase to perk up the proficiency to perform as the greatest police department throughout the world. If our police personnel are able to know why people commit crime, why they become dodgy for the society, psychological imbalances of the criminals, internationally taken steps for new types of crimes, treating the prisoners for not to become recidivist and so on. Then it will be easy for them to establish the rule of law and regain their desired honour from the society. If Bangladesh government takes this step, it will be a golden chance for them as well. An idea can really change our life. So, let's make a knowledgeable police department in Bangladesh.
