Short Story
Deepening light, 94F
Beans and cassava, fruit and plantain
Gari and egusi, corn and sugarcane
Run through the grass, by the trees with kola nuts
Cross the farms, through the fields, past the village chief's huts

Trash Bags
City sidewalk,
pressed into perfect squares
of four by four.
I see big black lumpy beetles
rustling as the wind blows
and their wings caress each other.
