Letters to Editor

Political turmoil
Apart from recurring natural calamities, hard line activities of the political parties have seriously hampered our economy.

Bush's future
It is a response to the letter of Nurjahan Islam published on July 21, 2004 in The Daily Star.

Embarrassing indeed
It was most probably 19 August when my friend and I were moving past the Dhaka Mayor Bhaban, we saw three foreigners singing a song for making Dhaka a clean city.

Ahmadiyya issue
There are some disturbing news about Bangladesh. May Allah protect the people and the country from evil.

Our image abroad: What image?
At a moment when the nation is going through a very serious political crisis, we have been provided comic relief from unexpected quarters.

Where is unity?
The whole country is grief-stricken by the incident of August 21,2004. It is a known fact that grief brings people closer, make them united, but alas, it is not so in our country.

Good editorial
This is to express my appreciation of The Daily Star's editorial on 30 August. It was explicit, clearly focused and had a very definite objective. The issue was clearly analysed and properly put forward.

A legitimate question
The BNP thinks that the Awami League does not want an enquiry into the bombing incident of Aug 21 in which 20 lives were lost and scores of others injured.

Dialogue needed
At this moment a section of the print media, editor-cum columnists and ruling alliance politicians are very eager to see commencement of dialogue sessions between two top level politicians of the two

Bomb throwing must be stopped to save democracy. The AL is the worst victim of the bomb attacks.

The rooster will return...
These days all the letters to the editors in almost all newspapers are about the 21 August attack on Sheikh Hasina's life. All the writers, whether they live in Bangladesh or abroad, condemned this attack.

No school for children
Current continuous hartals have caused a great amount of loss to the school going students, especially those, who had their school reopened after a long vacation.

Enforcement of law
The recent bomb blast incident at an AL meeting is very unfortunate. But it is better to give the government a chance to investigate the case rather than creating an anarchy.

Poor show
After the dismal show in the recent Asia cup, Bangladesh are not playing in a manner that will raise hopes.

Politicians think alike!
On August 26, India's Parliament passed the national budget without the main opposition party (BJP). BJP boycotted the parliament accusing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of insulting them.

Please stop it!
I applaud Khleda Zia for her bold attempt to meet the leader of the opposition Sheikh Hasina. She has done the right thing. That's what we needed in a crisis situation like this.

Sound pollution
First I would like to express my deep concern and grief over the brutal killing of our national leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 29 years ago Obviously the day 15 August is charged with emotion

Speechless
This is in response to the letter 'Don't read only for pleasure' by Dr. Shafquat Waheed (Aug 21). Dr.
