Probe body formed over vandalism centring women's football match in Joypurhat

The deputy commissioner's office of Joypurhat has formed a five-member probe committee to investigate the vandalism of a football field where a women's football match was scheduled for Wednesday.
Bipul Kumar, additional deputy commissioner (general) of Joypurhat, has been appointed to head the committee.
The probe body has been directed to submit its report by Sunday, said Joypurhat DC Afroza Aktar Chowdhury to The Daily Star over the phone this evening.
Additionally, the DC's office has instructed the UNO of Akkelpur to submit a separate report by Friday over the same incident.
"The probe body has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident. No one will be spared," said the DC, adding that she was on her way to Akkelpur.
Despite the attack, no case has been filed, said Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station.
Contacted, Samiul Islam Imon, president of T-Star Club and organisational secretary of Upazila BNP, said he was yet to file a case over the matter.
Asked about reorganising the women's football match following a directive from the chief administrator to the Joypurhat DC, he said, "I will reconsider after discussing with my club members and my party members."
The Daily Star tried to contact Dinajpur DC Md Rafiqul Islam for comments over a similar incident in Dinajpur's Hakimpur.
However, Hakimpur UNO Amit Roy confirmed that steps would be taken based on official directives regarding the event.
"No probe body has been formed in this regard," he added.
The attack on the football ground
On Tuesday afternoon, approximately 500 protesters, mostly locals and madrasa students, vandalised a field at Tilakpur High School in Joypurhat's Akkelpur, demanding the cancellation of the women's football match.
The same day, in Hakimpur upazila, at least seven people were injured in clashes between protesters and football match organisers over another women's football match in Bowna village in Alihat union.
