BSF decides to remove CCTV cameras from Kurigram zero line

India's Border Security Force has decided to remove the CCTV camera installed at the zero line of Banshjani border in Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram.
This decision was taken at a flag meeting between the Border Guard Bangladesh and BSF at the no-man's land of the Banshjani border this afternoon.
The BGB team was led by Kurigram BGB Battalion 22 Commanding Officer Lt Col Masudur Rahman and the BSF team by Commandant of 162 BSF Battalion Anil Kumar Manoj.
Masudur Rahman after the meeting said due to strong protests from the BGB, the BSF has decided to remove the CCTV camera from the zero line on the border. The BSF will remove the CCTV camera by tomorrow.
At the flag meeting, it was also decided to remove the tin structures built on the zero line on the border. The meeting decided that no structures could be set up within 150 yards of the border.
In addition, various issues related to the border of both countries were discussed.
The BGB and locals earlier said that BSF members secretly installed a CCTV camera on an eucalyptus tree next to the sub-pillar 9 of the international border pillar 978 facing Bangladeshi on February 9.
Locals saw the CCTV camera and informed the BGB the next morning. BGB members went to the scene and lodged a strong protest over the camera installation with the BSF.
Locals expressed alarm over the installation, particularly as a 200-year-old mosque at the Dakshin Banshjani Jhakuatari border -- frequented by worshippers from both countries -- is undergoing reconstruction.
