HC rejects writ challenging legality of interim government’s activities

The High Court today summarily rejected a writ petition challenging the legality of activities carried out during the tenure of the interim government led by former chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The HC bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order after hearing arguments on the petition.

Senior Advocate MK Rahman appeared for the writ petitioner, while Additional Attorney General Aneek R Haque opposed the petition.

Writ petitioner Advocate Mohammad Mohsen Rashid told The Daily Star that he would move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court challenging the HC order.

He submitted the petition to the High Court on May 4, seeking a directive for the government to form a commission to examine whether there were any allegations of corruption against Prof Yunus.

The petition also questioned the legality of various decisions, laws enacted, reform commissions formed, and domestic and international agreements signed during the tenure of the current government, he said.

Earlier, the same lawyer had filed another writ petition challenging the legality of the oath-taking and formation process of the current government.

However, a High Court bench dismissed that petition.

An appeal was later filed against the dismissal order, and the Supreme Court subsequently upheld the legality of the interim government.
