Dhaka metro rail operations remain halted today, reportedly due to work abstention being observed by staff members.

On Fridays, operations of the metro ail start at 3:00pm. But, today, one of our correspondents found the gate of Kazipara station closed at 3:05pm.

A staff, seeking not to be named, said around 500 to 600 staff members gathered outside the metro depot at Uttara's Diabari as a part of their protest for formulation of the own service rules.

"So, operations remained suspended," the official added.

Ahsan Ullah Sarifi, deputy director (public relations) of Mass Rapid Transit Line 6, declined to comment on the matter.

Attempts to reach Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Faruque Ahmed, and Director (operations) Nadir Uddin Ahmed for comments were also unsuccessful.
