15 beaten up while vandalising ex-minister's house in Gazipur

Fifteen people were injured in Gazipur yesterday as locals confronted a group of protesters who tried to vandalise the ancestral home of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque.
According to witnesses, around 10:00pm, dozens of protesters gathered near the house of the former minister and Gazipur District Awami League president in Dhirashram of Gazipur Metropolitan area to vandalise and set it on fire.
As they neared the house and began vandalising it, locals confronted them suspecting them as robbers. When the protesters tried to run away, locals caught 15 of the protesters and beat them up.
Around midnight, Gazipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman told The Daily Star that 15 people had been sent to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.
Of them, the condition of two people was critical, he said.
However, police did not identify the injured.
Siddiq Hossain, investigation officer of the police station, told The Daily Star that law enforcement agencies are at the scene.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
