Two moderate earthquakes jolt Sylhet

Both tremors originated in India’s Assam province

Two moderate earthquakes were felt in Sylhet early today (Monday).

Both earthquakes struck at 4:47 am today (Monday) and originated in India's Assam province, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicentre of the first one, a 5.2 magnitude quake, is 13 kilometres southwest of Dhing town, and the second one, a 4.9 magnitude quake, is nine kilometres northwest of Morigaon. Both earthquakes originated at a depth of 35 kilometres.

Due to its proximity to the epicentre, Sylhet experienced mild tremors. However, no casualties or damage were immediately reported.
