Scuffle at the airport: Passenger travelling to Dhaka from Norway injured

Five passengers, who arrived from Norway, were allegedly harassed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport last night.
According to airport sources, Mohammad Sayeed Uddin, his father Gias Uddin, mother Begum Monowara, brother Mohammad Mohi Uddin, and Gias Uddin's daughter-in-law Ipsa Jannatul Naim arrived from Norway via Doha on a Qatar Airlines flight. Their ancestral home is in Feni's Sonagazi.
"Five members of a family arrived in Dhaka from Norway. The initial information we gathered suggested that the incident stemmed from a request by a security official to a passenger to move from a specific spot. It led to an altercation and eventually to a brawl that injured one of the passengers," an Airport Armed Police Battalion official told The Daily Star.
According to witnesses and officials, the family completed the immigration and other procedures and exited through the airport's international arrival Canopy-2 around 9:15pm. However, Gias Uddin stood directly in front of the gate with a trolley, obstructing the path.
Noticing his position, an on-duty security officer requested the passenger to move away from the position to allow others to exit the airport freely. However, the passenger ignored his repeated requests and later verbally abused the officer, said the officials.
Another security officer in the vicinity tried to calm the passenger down. However, Gias Uddin's son, Sayeed, approached and physically assaulted the security personnel, the investigators added.
A video of the incident that went viral on social media shows around ten QRF (quick response force) and Ansar members assaulting Sayeed while a woman from his family was seen screaming for help.
Following the incident, another video was released showing Sayeed's face covered in blood, with injuries around his left eye.
HSIA authorities, however, claimed that two passengers physically assaulted airport security personnel in front of the airport's Canopy-2.
They alleged that the passengers started punching the security officer, leading to a scuffle during which the officer fell to the ground. Ansar and aviation security present at the spot intervened to rescue the security official.
Sayeed was fined Tk 5,000 by an executive magistrate.
The videos garnered criticism from netizens, with most claiming that the law enforcers should have handled the situation differently rather than resorting to physical assault.
Many also urged airport security personnel to maintain standard operating procedures in accordance with international guidelines, ensuring basic rights for all passengers.
