One killed in clash between protesters and police-AL men in Magura
At least one person was killed and 20 others injured during a clash between protesters on one side, and police and ruling party men on the other, in Magura this morning.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Azizul Haque, a staffer of Magura Sadar Hospital, said one person died and many others including police personnel were injured.
"We are struggling to give them treatment," he said.
Witnesses said the protestors brought out a procession at Parnandualia area when police tried to intercept them, resulting in the clash. The protesters threw brick chunks at law enforcers who fired tear gas canisters and rubber bullets. Ruling party men joined police.
Mehedi Rasel, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar Police Station, said most of the protesters are BNP-Jamaat men who attacked police.
"The clash is still going on. Many of the police personnel were injured," he said, adding he cannot say right now whether anyone has died or not.
