Eminent Bangladeshi writer and journalist Mashiul Alam will represent the country at the 2026 International Writers’ Workshop (IWW) at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU).

This year, Alam will also participate in the 25th Anniversary edition of the Hong Kong International Literary Festival. He is scheduled to speak about his acclaimed book, "The Meat Market: Ten Stories and a Novella", celebrated for its unflinching portrayal of human vulnerability and social fracture.

“Literature allows us to cross borders that politics often cannot,” Alam stated before his departure. “I look forward to sharing stories from Bangladesh. Such exchanges deepen not only our understanding of others, but also of ourselves.”

One of Asia’s most prestigious residency programmes, the IWW brings together a select group of global authors for a month of creative exchange, public readings, and academic dialogue.
