BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the physical condition of BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia is "very critical."

"You all know she has been unwell and has been admitted to Evercare Hospital. Last night, the doctors said her condition is very critical," Fakhrul told a programme after Juma prayers and doa seeking Khaleda's recovery in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.

Khaleda was admitted to Evercare Hospital after developing a chest infection, affecting both her heart and lungs.

Fakhrul urged people across the country to pray for her well-being.

He said that Khaleda had spent her entire life fighting for democracy, enduring imprisonment and torture, and is now in the hospital.

"On behalf of the party, we have asked people across the country to pray for the recovery of the 'Mother of Democracy' Khaleda Zia," he said.

"After Juma, we prayed to Allah for her recovery. We prayed that Allah make her fully healthy, that she returns to the people, and that she gets the opportunity to work for the country again."

Khaleda, 80, has long suffered from multiple health complications, including heart, liver, and kidney issues, diabetes, lung problems, arthritis, and eye-related conditions. She has a permanent pacemaker and previously underwent heart stenting.
