Ex-industries minister Nurul Majid dies at DMCH while in jail custody
Former industries minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, who was in jail custody, died this morning while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He was admitted to the hospital yesterday and breathed his last around 8:30am today, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, confirmed.
His son, Manzurul Majid Mahmud Sadi, also confirmed the death in a Facebook post this morning.
In September last year, a Narsingdi court sent Nurul Majid to jail in a case filed over the killing of a Sramik Dal leader during the anti-discrimination student movement in Madhabdi municipality area on August 4.
According to a jail notification, Nurul Majid was admitted to DMCH with uncontrolled bowel and bladder complications. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the ICU around 4:00pm yesterday.
On August 4 last year, Jahangir Alam, vice-president of ward-4 unit of Madhabdi municipality Sramik Dal, was shot during protests and later died at a hospital.
After Jahangir's cousin Amir Hossain filed a case with Madhabdi Police Station on August 9 against 127 people, including the former industries minister, Rapid Action Battalion arrested him in Dhaka's Gulshan area.
