Dhaka University has announced a one-day closure tomorrow in honour of former vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, who passes away on Thursday.

The decision aligned with the university's tradition of paying respect to former vice-chancellors and faculty members.

Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, acting director of the Public Relations Office, confirmed the announcement in an official statement.

As per university protocol, funeral arrangements, including public announcements on campus, condolence messages, a special prayer at the central mosque, and other customary practices, have been carried out with the family's consent.

The university administration has also respected the family's decision regarding the location of the funeral and burial, the statement said.

Professor Arefin Siddique was admitted to the ICU of the Neuroscience Unit at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital after he suddenly collapsed on March 6.

The following day, Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan visited him at the hospital to check on his condition and medical treatment.

Throughout his hospitalisation, the university administration maintained regular communication with his family, close friends, and colleagues. Following his passing, VC Niaz Ahmed and other senior university officials attended the funeral and burial, offering full administrative support, it said.
