Cops charge batons, use water cannons on Shahbagh protesters

Police charged batons and used water cannons this afternoon to disperse the protesters who are demanding the reinstatement of 6,531 assistant teacher appointments in government primary schools.

The law enforcers took action around 2:00pm. Many have been injured but they stayed on the road despite the police action.

Protesters are continuing their sit-in in Shahbagh area for the eighth consecutive day today. 

More than 300 candidates began gathering in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh from 9:00am this morning, Khaled Mansur, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station

Holding placards in their hands, the protesters were seen chanting various slogans in favour of their demands.

The protesters have come from different parts of the country and some even brought children with them.

The photojournalist also said that some of the protesters were also wearing shrouds.
