Dr M Aminul Islam, a special assistant to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, resigned from his post today.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Aminul said he sent his resignation letter to the Cabinet Division through his personal secretary.

Asked about the reason of his resignation, he said the Chief Adviser's Office asked him to resign yesterday and today.

When asked about Aminul's claim, the chief adviser's press secretary Shafiqul Alam did not give any direct reply.

"We have heard that he (Aminul) resigned," he said at a press conference at Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.

In late November last year, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus appointed three special assistants, including Aminul, with the rank of state minister.
