Not Baipail, 3.3 magnitude earthquake shakes Narsingdi’s Palash
The mistake occurred due to an analysis error, met office says
Less than 24 hours after an earthquake struck Madhabdi in Narsingdi, another tremor was recorded in Palash upazila of the same district this morning.
The minor tremor measuring 3.3 on the Richter scale was felt around 10:36am, said a Met Office bulletin.
The earthquake's epicentre was 29 kilometres north-east of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department office in Dhaka's Agargaon.
However, no casualties or damage have been reported so far.
Earlier, Professional Assistant Nizamuddin Ahmed, in charge of the Earthquake Observation and Research Centre, told The Daily Star that the earthquake was felt in Baipail area, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Later, it was reported that the epicentre of the earthquake was in Palash upazila. The Met Office said the earlier incorrect information resulted from an analysis error."
Yesterday, at least 10 people were killed in a powerful earthquake that shook several parts of the country, including Dhaka.
According to the BMD, the tremor was recorded at 10:38am. It measured 5.7 on the Richter scale. The epicentre was located in Madhabdi, about 13km east of the Seismic Centre at Agargaon in Dhaka. The coordinates were Lat.: 23.77°N, Long: 90.51°E.
