JU student files rape case against former student

A female student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has filed a rape case against a former student of the university.

The accused, SM Tarikul Islam, was a student of the 44th batch of the Institute of Information Technology at the university.

The woman filed the case with Ashulia Police Station on Wednesday, alleging that she was called to Tarikul’s residence near the campus and raped, confirmed its Officer-in-Charge Rubel Howlader.

Sub-Inspector Miraj Akon, the investigating officer of the case, citing the case statement, said the victim was in a relationship with the accused. On February 24, after iftar, the accused allegedly raped and assaulted her in his house in the Islamnagar area.

Police later rescued the student after she called 999, he said.

She was taken to Savar Upazila Health Complex for medical examination.

Law enforcers, including police and Rab, are conducting drives to arrest the accused, the SI added.

University Proctor AKM Rashidul Alam said they received a written complaint from the victim yesterday. The complaint has been filed and forwarded to the vice-chancellor’s office.

The university administration will provide the highest possible support to the student, he added.
