Jhumon Das denied bail in DSA case; family to file appeal
A Sunamganj court today (September 26, 2022) rejected the bail plea of Jhumon Das who was arrested in a case filed under the Digital Security Act.
Sunamganj District and Sessions Judge's Court Judge Zakia Parvin passed the order, Jhumon's lawyer Pankaj Kumar told our Sylhet correspondent.
"The hearing of the bail petition was scheduled for September 19, but the hearing was held today as the judge was on leave and he rejected Jhumon's bail."
With the consent of Jhumon Das' family, an appeal will be filed with the High Court for his bail.
On August 31, after over 12 hours of detention over a Facebook post, police sued Jhumon in the case.
The case was filed by Sumonur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Shalla Police Station in Sunamganj for "demeaning religion through his Facebook post".
On March 16 last year, following a Facebook post against Hefajat-e-Islam's controversial leader Mamunul Haque, police detained Jhumon.
