Gayeshwar, Rizvi among 173 BNP men discharged from sabotage case

A Dhaka tribunal today discharged a total of 173 leaders and activists of BNP including Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi from a case filed over sabotage charges in 2018.

Judge Shihabul Islam of Dhaka Special Tribunal-16 passed the order after their lawyers submitted separate petitions for discharging them from the case.

BNP leader Advocate Zainul Abedin, Barrister Kayser Kamal, and Shama Obayed are also among the accused.

According to the case statement, it was alleged that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was returning home after appearing at a special court set up at Bakshibazar Alia Madrassa near the old Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka on January 30, 2018.

At that time, BNP leaders and activists were chanting slogans on the street near Paribagh in Shahbagh Police Station's jurisdiction. At that time, the leaders and activists clashed with the police.

Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Md Mohibullah of Ramna Model police station filed a case.

After an investigation, Sub-Inspector Mohammad Saiful Islam Khan of the Detective Branch submitted a charge sheet against Gayeshwar and 172 other party men on January 29, 2020.
