Former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was brought to the International Crimes Tribunal ahead of today's verdict in the crimes against humanity case in which ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina is an accused also.

A prison van escorted by police entered the tribunal premises around 9:00am, bringing Mamun, the lone arrestee and an approver in the crimes against humanity case, under tight security measures.

He is expected to be produced before the tribunal today in connection with the case.

The verdict is scheduled to be delivered today by ICT-1, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder.

The verdict will be declared in absence of Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal as both are fugitives.

Mamun is the first accused to become a state witness since the tribunal was set up in 2010.
