Case filed over gang rape in Cox’s Bazar

A case was filed today against six persons in connection with the gang rape of a teenage girl in Bodorkhali union under Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar.
The victim's father lodged the case with Chakaria Police Station. The accused are Mohammad Tajum alias Tajul Uddin, 22, Amit Hasan, 25, Tarek Zia, 21, Md Kajal, 23, Md Choton, and Md Faruq, 24.
Of them, Tajum, Amit, Tarek, and Kajal were arrested before the case was filed.
Additionally, police detained four suspects -- Md Bashir, 38, Md Shahjahan, 27, Md Sajib, 25, and another Md Choton, 23 -- during drives in Maheshkhali and Bodorkhali areas.
Chakaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjur Quader Bhuiyan said four more people have been arrested in the case on suspicion.
The OC also said they are trying to arrest the remaining two accused -- Md Choton and Md Faruq.
The victim's father said the names of the accused surfaced on social media following the incident.
"Four of them were identified through those reports. We hope for swift justice," he told local journalists today.
The accused were sent to Chakaria Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court around 2:00pm today. The victim also gave her statement under Section 22 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000, said the OC.
