Man killed after microbus hits motorcycle on Bijoy Sarani

A man was killed after a microbus hit a ride-sharing motorcycle carrying him near the Bijoy Sarani intersection in Dhaka early today.

The deceased was identified as Yakub Ali, 50, a resident of Mirpur's Pallabi area and an electrical equipment trader.

The accident occurred around 12:30am in the Bijoy Sarani area under Kafrul Police Station. According to family members, Yakub was returning home as a pillion rider on a ride-sharing motorcycle after attending to business-related work in the Jurain-Postogola area when a microbus allegedly struck the motorcycle from behind.

He sustained serious injuries and was first taken to Kurmitola General Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 2:30am.

Kafrul Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Yusuf Ali Bhuiyan said the microbus driver took the injured man to the hospital immediately after the accident.

Police have taken the driver, Farhad, 25, into custody, he added.
