The High Court yesterday ordered the returning officer of Kishoreganj-2 constituency to receive and scrutinise the nomination paper of Tarek Mohammad Shahidul Islam, a National People's Party (NPP) nominated aspirant, in the next 24 hours.
The bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Tarek, seeking necessary orders so that he can contest the 11th national election slated for December 30.
Citing the writ petition, Deputy Attorney General Amatul Karim Swapna said Tarek went to submit his nomination paper on November 28. The returning officer refused to accept it citing that the NPP leader was late for submission.
The government will move a petition before the apex court, seeking stay on the HC order, the DAG said.

A female ready-made garment worker was allegedly raped at Rupganj in Narayanganj early Friday.
The 22-year-old was raped in Khadun area of the upazila while returning home from work, said Muhammad Abdul Huq, officer-in-charge of Rupganj Police Station.
The victim lodged a case with Rupganj Police Station against three -- Sumon, 23, Nahid, 22, and Hasin, 22, -- on Friday, he added.
Quoting the case statement, the OC also said one of the three accused raped the victim. Two others assisted.
Hearing her scream, locals rescued the victim and sent her to home.
Police sent the woman to Narayanganj General Hospital for tests and were trying to arrest the accused.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, police arrested a man for allegedly raping a six-year-old indigenous girl at Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur.
The arrestee is Rubel Tirki, 30, of Parbati-Krishnapur village in the upazila.
Rubel allegedly took the girl, a grade one student, to a sugarcane field offering her sugarcane and raped her, said police.
Hearing her scream, locals rescued the victim and took her to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex. Rubel escape, police added.
Later in the day, locals held the accused and handed him over to the police.
A case was filed in this connection with Mithapukur Police Station on Thursday afternoon. Police sent him to jail on the same day after placing him before court, said Zafar Ullah, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Meanwhile, detectives in Noakhali yesterday arrested a man in connection with a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman in Subarnachar upazila on December 31.
The arrestee is Henju Majhi, 29, said Zakir Hossain, inspector of Detective Branch in the district.
On information, a team of DB police conducted a drive in Cumilla's Daudkandi upazila and arrested Henju in the morning, said Zakir, also the investigation officer of the case.
He had been hiding since the incident, he said.
With Henju, 11 people have been arrested over the gang-rape.

The High Court today in a verdict ruled that educational institutions cannot compel any admission seeker to disclose their marital status for admissions.
The HC bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Md Khairul Alam delivered the verdict after hearing on a rule that in December 2017 questioned the legality of educational institutions seeking information on marital status of admission seekers.
Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta, who represented the state, told The Daily Star that following the HC judgement, no student can be forced to disclose their marital status for his or her admission in any institution across the country.
The HC also declared illegal Rajshahi Government Nursing College's action of asking a rape victim to write that she was abandoned by her husband in the admission form, he said.
The deputy attorney general said details based on which the HC delivered the judgement can be known when the full text is released.
Following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Fahriya Ferdous, the HC on December 11, 2017 issued the rule questioning the legality of the educational institutions' action seeking information on marital status of admission seekers.
The court in the rule asked authorities concerned of the government to explain why this should not be declared unconstitutional.
The HC also asked authorities to admit a female student, who gave birth to a baby after being raped, to Rajshahi Government Nursing College.
Lawyer Aneek R Haque appeared for the writ petitioner during hearing on the rule.

The Supreme Court on Sunday upheld a High Court directive that asked the agencies concerned to conduct inquiry into corruption allegations regarding government fund against some officials of Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).
The Appellate Division of the SC also affirmed its chamber judge's order that on June 25 issued status quo on a part of the HC directive which directed them to probe the allegations regarding FIFA fund.
The apex court also asked the HC to dispose of the rule issued over this matter in three weeks, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.
A full bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order after hearing of a leave to appeal petition filed by BFF's senior vice-president and finance committee chairman Abdus Salam Murshedy challenging the HC order.
The HC on May 15 ordered the ACC, Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), Bangladesh Bank, National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Youth and Sports ministry to conduct inquiry into the allegations of corruption, money laundering and embezzlement allegedly raised against the officials concerned of BFF and to submit the probe reports before it in four months.
The HC also issued a rule asking the respondents to explain why their inaction to conduct the inquiry into these allegations should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat Lizu issued the order and rule following a writ petition filed seeking its directive on the ACC to probe the corruption allegation.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said the nation will witness a “vote revolution” in favour of the party symbol “boat” on the December 30 election day.
“The revolution of vote will be against the communal and evil forces,” Quader, also the minister for Road Transport and Bridges, said while inspecting repair works on the Feni-Noakhali-Laxmipur road in Jaylaskaer area of Daganbhuiyan upazila in Feni.
Expressing optimism that the election will be held in a free, fair and festive manner, he said the countrymen have been united in favour of “boat” and will engage in a vote revolution against the communal, evil forces that resort to terrorism and corruption.
“Those who are involved in politics with a Pakistan-inspired spirit have been hatching plots to create anarchy on the election day,” the AL general secretary said.
“Some of them may try to incite violence in the name of guarding polling centres. They will be resisted with iron hands and everyone must remain alert against them,” he also said.
Quader also pledged the Feni-Noakhali-Laxmipur road will be developed to four lanes if AL comes to power again.
Replying to a query, the AL leader said in order to continue the trend of development, AL will come to power again through the citizen’s “vote revolution”.
