Community police
Craig A Meisner, Adjunct Professor, Dept of Crops and Soils, Cornell University
I am an expatriate--a USA citizen-- who has lived and worked now in Bangladesh for over 25 years. Today I read about community policing working very well in the Mirpur section of Kushtia. I am elated that there are policemen who care as much as SM Kamruzzaman who have taken the 'high road' of police work. I think he and his colleagues are to be commended for their fantastic outlook on police work. They give police a 'good name' by doing community acts like this. Also, I commend DS as a newspaper for bringing such encouraging news to our internet laps (I am reading The Daily Star in the USA temporarily). I also enjoyed hearing about the Bangladeshi peace keeping forces in Ivory Coast. I have heard many rumours that Bangladeshis are considered 'the best' of these forces and it makes me very proud to say that I and my family have invested over 25 years with Bangladesh!
