Science and Technology Week Begins
'Fund crisis main obstacle to promoting science edn'

Fund crisis is the main obstacle to promoting the science and technology education across the country, academicians said at the inaugural ceremony of 'Science and Technology week-2007' at Dhaka College yesterday.

They also said Internet facilities should be provided for all teachers and students in educational institutions and that the government should allocate separate funds for this purpose.

It is very disappointing that funds for science and technology education are too inadequate, said Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, vice-chancellor of Brac University, who inaugurated the week as the chief guest.

The Science Club of Dhaka College organised the week.

Prof Jamilur Reza said that science-based society cannot be established unless Internet access is ensured for all students and teachers.

The government should allocate special funds for science and technology education so that every four students can get a computer with facilities for access to Internet, he added.

Prof Aminul Islam of Dhaka University said Bangladeshi students could play a vital role in developing the nation if they have access to modern technology.

Prof Marium Begum, principal of Dhaka College, presided over the inaugural session while Vice-Principal Prof Anwar Alam Khan also spoke.
