Mass psychogenic illness: 34 more students fell sick

Some 34 students fell sick during outbreaks of mass psychogenic illness (MPI), also known as mass hysteria, in different parts of the country yesterday.

Our Correspondent in Kushtia reports: At least eight female students of Mominpur Secondary School in Meherpur Sadar were attacked by mass hysteria.

Later, they underwent treatment at Meherpur General Hospital.

A Correspondent at Noakhali adds: A total of 26 students of Badherhat High School at Noakhali Sadar also fell victim to MPI.

Mass hysteria has continued to break out at schools in different parts of the country for the last few days, causing panic among the students.

The experts said an outbreak of mass psychogenic illness is a time of anxiety and worry. The illness is aggravated by malnutrition, tension and lack of tolerance. The victims are mostly students aged between 13 and 25.

The experts also assured that the illness has no long-term effects on the victims and there is nothing to worry about.
