UGC member Tareque Shamsur Rahman, who has been refusing to resign for the last few days, sent his resignation letter to the education ministry through UGC Secretary Mufakker yesterday.

With him, a total of four members resigned in the last three days. The three others are Faisul Islam Farruqui, M Mahbub Ullah and Sultan Hossain.

"I and three other members were compelled to resign due to strong pressure from the education adviser, the secretary and the deputy secretary. We are embarrassed as the caretaker government ordered us to resign without informing us of the reason," Tareque Shamsur Rahman told The Daily Star yesterday evening.
