Former BNP lawmaker’s wife sued for keeping illegal timber


Forest Department yesterday sued Selina Sahid, the wife of former BNP lawmaker Sahidul Islam, for keeping huge quantity of timber illegally at her house in Kushtia.

Meanwhile, former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib was accused in a Tk 2 crore extortion case Wednesday night, reports our Satkhira correspondent.

Selina, also a former BNP lawmaker from reserved seat, was sued for keeping 360.41 square feet of timber worth Tk 4 lakh at her abode illegally.

Acting on a tip-off, joint forces raided Selina's house at Rathpara at about 10:30 am and seized the timber.

Later, Bheramara Forest Department official Osman Gani filed a case against Selina with Bheramara police station under the conservation of forest act.

Police said forest department filed another case against Selina on the same charges on July 14.

They said joint forces raided the same house and seized 226.41 square feet of timber worth Tk 2.5 lakh at that time.

Police said former BNP lawmaker Sahidul, who has been absconding since January, collected huge quantity of timber illegally and might have been involved in timber smuggling.

A case was filed against former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib with Satkhira Sadar police station Wednesday night for extortion of Tk 2 crore.

Abu Naser Md Abu Sayeed, son of Abdus Sabur of Itagachha village, filed the case against Habibul who is on the run.

Earlier, Abdur Rahman Biswas of Sreepatipur village in Kalaroa upazila filed an extortion case against Habibul and five others with Kalaroa police station on July 19.
