12 customs officials transferred

Twelve customs officials have been transferred and appointed in a major reshuffle. A letter relating to transfer and appointment order issued by the tax administration reached the Chittagong Customs House through fax yesterday afternoon. Md Farid uddin, commissioner of both export and import customs of Chittagong, has been made director general of the Department of Customs, Duty and VAT Inspection. Commissioner Lutfur Rahman of VAT Appeal Commissionerate, Chittagong was appointed commissioner of Chittagong Customs (import) while Commissioner Margub Ahmed of Sylhet Customs House as commissioner of Chittagong Customs (export). Additional Commissioner Saiful Islam of Chittagong Customs (export) was transferred to the National Board of Revenue as its first secretary. Mashuk Al Hossain, joint commissioner-1 of Chittagong Customs (import), was promoted to the post of additional commissioner at Chittagong Customs (export). Matiur Rahman, Joint commissioner- 2 of Chittagong Customs (import) was transferred to the VAT commissionerate in Rajshahi. Jessore Customs Joint Commissioner Belal Hossain and Joint Commissioner Ashraf Ali Farukh were made the joint commissioners of Chittagong Customs (import). Deputy Commissioner Fakhrul Alam of Chittagong Customs (export) was transferred to the Bond Commissionerate in Dhaka. Assistant Commissioner ABM Shafiqur Rahman of Chittagong Customs (import) was made the second secretary of NBR and Mokarram Hossain has been asked to replace him. Commissioner Abdul Mannan Patwary of Chittagong VAT Commissionerate was transferred to the post of commissioner at Large Tax Payer Unit of VAT in Dhaka. Besides, Noor Mohammad Mia, director general of Customs, Duty and VAT Training Academy, Chittagong would perform the duties of Chittagong VAT Commissioner as additional charge. The letter signed by the first secretary of Tax Administration asked the officials to join their new offices by August 9, sources said.
