Three new NR on opening day

Three new national records were set yesterday as the Keya Cosmetics 23rd National Age Group Swimming competition began at the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur.Jewel Ahmed and Nazma Khatun of Ansar and Mohammad Faisal Ahmed of Alamgir Swimming Club of Rajshahi created these three new national marks. In the 200m breaststroke of the boys under-14 group, Jewel clinched gold after he clocked 2:54 minutes, bettering the previous mark. Ismail Hossain and Kawsar Hossain of BKSP won the silver and bronze medals respectively. In 200m individual medley of the boys under-10 group, Faisal won the gold in 02:59.02 minutes, taking over the previous record of 03:02.18 minutes. Mohammad Ponir Hossain of Ansar grabbed the silver while Alauddin Titas of Nawabganj Swimming Club, also from Rajshahi, got the bronze. Nazma bagged the gold in 200m individual medley of the girls under-10 group with a time of 03:21.76 minutes to better the previous timing of 03:29.28 minutes. Naima Akhter Sonali of BKSP got the silver while Rumpa Khatun of Alamgir Swimming Club, Rajshahi took the bronze. At the end of the day, Ansar dominates the medal table securing 14 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze. BKSP are in second place with while Alamgir Swimming Club of Rajshahi is in the 3rd position. National Sports Council (NSC) secretary M Aminul Islam Khan earlier inaugurated the three-day meet as chief guest in the afternoon.
