Ustad Momtaj Ali Khan's 92nd birth anniversary celebrated


USTAD Momtaj Ali Khan Music Academy arranged a programme at the main auditorium of National Museum on July 31 to observe the noted musician's 92nd birth anniversary. The programme included a discussion and music.

Noted musician Sudhin Das launched a book on the folk exponent titled Ustad Momtaj Ali Khan-er Gaan (Second Part) at the programme. Das, chief guest at the programme, said, "Ustad Momtaj Ali Khan's name will always be mentioned alongside with folk legends Abdul Alim, Kanai Lal Sheel and others."

Noted poet Asad Chowdhury and Golam Kuddus, general secretary of Bangladesh Sammilita Sangskritik Jote were also present at the programme. Rupu Khan, daughter of Ustad Momtaj Ali Khan and executive director of the academy, presided over the programme.

Musical performances followed the discussion. Folk singers performed popular songs of Ustad Momtaj Ali Khan.

Among Khan's numerous compositions, Rangila rangila, popularised by Sachin Dev Barman; Allah megh dey, popularised by Abdul Alim and several other noted artistes, Chara gachhe phul fuitachhey and Agey jani narey doyal are considered classics.
