Textile Mill workers deprived of arrears
Our Correspondent, Satkhira
Hundreds of workers and staffs of the state owned Sundarban Textile Mills who were forced to go on voluntary retirement thronged the mill gate to receive their wages and arrear dues on Tuesday. But they had to go back home disappointed because the mill management did not keep their pledges. Now, they are uncertain about payment of their arrear dues. A big contingent of police have been deployed in and around the mill area to avoid any untoward incident, mill sources said. The mills went into production in 1983. The mill became a losing concern in February. Then the Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) authorities compelled its permanent workers and staff to go on voluntary retirement. About 801 workers and staff of the mills have lost their jobs.
