12 extra-judicial killings in July

Twelve people were killed by law enforcement agencies in the country last month, says a report on extra-judicial killings by Odhikar, a human rights organisation.Of them, police allegedly killed eight people and four others were killed by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab). Ten people were killed in 'crossfire', six by police and four by Rab. Four people died in jail custody. Thirty women and girls were raped during the period. Of them 13 were women and 17 were girls. Of the 13 women , three were killed, and of the 17 girls , three were killed after rape. A total of 12 people, seven women, three men and two children, were the victims of acid-related violence. Meanwhile, Indian Border Security Force (BSF) killed eight Bangladeshi nationals and injured 11 others in July. Besides seven Bangladeshis were abducted by the BSF. The report of Odhikar was prepared on the basis of stories published in eleven daily newspapers. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Nari Progoti Sangha, a women's rights organisation, said 179 incidents of women's repression occurred in the country in July. A total of 61 women were killed, 30 raped, four abducted and two were victims of acid violence. According to Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, 409 women were the victims of repression during the period. Of them 72 women were raped, nine were killed after rape and 13 women were victims of acid violence. Thirteen women were killed for dowry, it added.
