Bangladesh conceded a 25-20, 17-25, 18-25, 21-25 defeat to Sri Lanka in a keenly contested match of the Commonwealth Volleyball Championship in Kolkata yesterday.Earlier on Tuesday, Bangladesh earned a straight sets (30-28, 25-26, 25-23) victory over Nigeria at the same venue. WOMEN'S FOOTBALL Twenty-two players were called as the visiting Orissa women's football team will play against the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) XI on August 21. The players have been asked to report to Kamrun Nahar Dana at the Dhanmondi Women's Sports Complex on August 3 at 5pm. AGE-GROUP SWIMMING Keya Cosmetics 23rd National Age Group Swimming Championship will be held at the National Swimming Complex in Mirpur today. 607 swimmers and 88 officials from 26 affiliated districts and 33 swimming clubs have registered to participate in the meet. 446 swimmers participated in last year's meet that featured 23 national records. Swimming Federation general secretary Syed Aminul Haque Dewan disclosed the details of the meet at a press conference in the NSC conference room yesterday. Of the total budget of Tk 10.73 lakh, sponsors Keya Cosmetics will provide Tk 3.5 lakh. FEDERATION CUP SQUASH Federation Cup Squash Tournament begin today at Gulshan Club and Cadet College Club. The tournament will be held in seven divisions -- Premier Division, A Division, B Division, C Division, Under-18 Division, and above 40 and 50 divisions. The champions of each division will receive Tk 7,000 while the runners-up will get Tk 5,000 and the third-placed team gets Tk 2,000 as prize money. The estimated tournament budget of Tk 80,000 will be borne from the Federation itself.
