Tk 1.5cr VoIP equipment seized in city

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday seized Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment worth Tk 1.5 crore from the office of Onetel Communications Ltd in the capital. They arrested Managing Director of the company Asif Rabbani and Director (Technical) Arif for their involvement in running VoIP business illegally after their 36-hour raid on Onetel's Banani office on Kemal Ataturk Avenue, said Rab sources. Earlier, Rab raided the same office on April 8, after getting information about company's involvement in illegal VoIP business. Later, Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) filed a case with Gulshan Police Station against Onetel. They said company's financial documents show that it had been involved in illegal VoIP business since 2006 and the business volume could worth about Tk 30 crore. The seized items include eight gateways, four masks, one power supply unit, six Cisco Channel Banks and four soft switches.
