Hasina serves legal notice on ACC
Challenges validity of its notice

Former prime minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina yesterday sent a legal notice to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) challenging the notice of the commission served upon her to submit wealth statement.

Barrister Fazle Nur Tapas, legal counselor of Hasina, sent the notice to the ACC chairman, questioning validity of the issuance of the notice by a deputy director-level officer of the ACC to a former prime minister ordering her to submit wealth statement.

ACC Secretary Mokhles-ur Rahman told reporters that the commission has received the notice. It would be discussed at the next meeting of the commission, he said.

Barristr Tapas in the legal notice observed that the delegation of power by the ACC to a deputy director-level officer for serving any notice on a former prime minister was illegal.

He asked the ACC to respond to the legal notice by August 5.

Sheikh Hasina along with her husband has to submit wealth statement to the ACC by August 8.
