Hasina's arrest

As a Bangladeshi born British citizen living in the UK all my life, I was fortunate enough to spend the first few months of 2007 in Bangladesh and witness firsthand some of the changes occurring in the country.

For the last 31 years that I've been living in the UK, I have never much cared about Bangladesh or its predicament. Yes, like all Bangladeshis I sent my zakat money not caring about where it went or how it was spent. My biggest grievance regarding Bangladesh is that despite all the evidence against corrupt politicians, many people continue to support and accept them. It perplexes me as to why someone would want to die for a politician who is hell-bent on making as much money for him or herself as they could.

I read one of your articles which stated Hasina telling a police officer that they would pay when she came out. It's laughable that the AL chief is now yearning for democracy, but boycotted parliament when she had her chance and yet drew her salary!

I also read that the student wing of the AL is now holding countrywide demonstrations, to protest her arrest. I think with the arrest of Hasina, they see their chance of making millions of taka at the expense of people of Bangladesh disappearing down the abyss.

I would like to congratulate you for telling the truth regardless of consequences. I would also like to congratulate the CTG and the Army Chief for attempting to tackle one of the biggest failures of Bangladesh-- corruption. The CTG must apply the same treatment to the BNP.

I would very much like to see Bangladesh continue down the path of corruption eradication at all levels and make an attempt to abolish the student organisations that primarily exist to implement the will of failing political parties.

The CTG is on the right path and it must implement its policies without hindrance from home or abroad. If the government falters or shows any signs of weakness then Bangladesh will revert back to the old ways of mayhem and madness. Despite protests from Europe and US, it must stay steadfast for the sake of Bangladeshi people as another chance like this will never come again.
