This year the slogan of the week is 'Breastfeeding: Initiation in the first hour can save more than one million newborn babies.'

In observance of the week meetings, seminars and symposiums will be held in different medical colleges, districts and upazilas to motivate the mothers to start breastfeeding within an hour of giving birth to a child.

Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation will launch the inaugural programme at Bangladesh Shishu Academy auditorium in the city where the high-ups of government health officials will be present.

A study revealed that infant mortality could be reduced to 22 percent if they are breastfed within an hour of their born as about four million newborn babies around the world die within four weeks.
