DU finds 37 more fake students


A fact-finding committee formed to investigate admission forgery at Dhaka University (DU) yesterday primarily identified 37 more fake students who got admitted to the university through fraudulent means. Of them, 19 are from political science department (academic session 1999-2000), 17 from public administration (2003-2004 session) and one from mathematics department, committee sources said.

The committee at meeting also decided to serve show-cause notices on 15 students of different sessions in mathematics, management and political science departments it has finally identified as fake ones.

The meeting decided to recommend to the DU Syndicate cancellation of studentship of eight who were earlier were identified as fake and did not respond to show-cause notices.

The committee has taken statements of five people in and outside university, suspected to be linked to the admission forgery racket.

Earlier, in two phases, the DU authorities cancelled admission of 158 fake students.
