Housewife Shashi murder
Family demands proper investigation

Family members of slain housewife Farjana Jahan Shashi yesterday demanded that the murder case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for proper investigation into the murder and arrest of her killers.

Shashi was a victim of a preplanned murder, they said and accused her husband engineer Hasnat Reza and in-laws of their involvement in the murder.

Shashi, also a student of Home Economics College, was slaughtered at her husband's rented flat at Purbo Kafrul in the city on June 4 and local people caught domestic help Majnu Miah, 18, when he tried to dump the body at Dhaka Udyan Housing at Mohammapur.

At a press conference yesterday, Shashi's father Shahjahan Miah alleged that the investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Alamgir Kabir, had played a dubious role in handling the case by not conducting proper investigation.

He said that although Majnu told the police that another person named Sajib was also involved in the murder, the police did not take it into account and mentioned the name of Majnu in the case as the only accused.

When contacted, SI Alamgir Kabir denied the allegations and said Majnu had cited the name of an imaginary person 'Sajib' only to save himself.

The SI also said Majnu had confessed to the police that he himself committed the murder, which was also corroborated by the evidence gathered by the police.

Shashi's family members also claimed that it was not possible for one person to slaughter a woman, destroy the evidence, wrap the body in a sack and take it to Mohammadpur from Kafrul by a rickshaw just within two hours.

"If the CID investigates the murder case, we are hopeful that the real perpetrators will soon be identified," Shajahan Miah said.

He also said that his family came to know after the murder of Shashi that Majnu is a cousin of Hasnat Reza, which aroused their suspicion that her husband might also be involved in the murder.
