Costa joins Wolfsburg

Portuguese international defender Ricardo Costa has moved to Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg from FC Porto in a transfer worth four million euros (5.4 million dollars), the German club confirmed on Monday.

The 26-year-old will sign a three-year deal this week.

Wolfsburg's new coach Felix Magath said: "I am very happy that we have got this player. He will strengthen the team."

Costa, a member of Portugal's 2006 World Cup squad, has been signed to fill the hole left by the departure of Dutchman Kevin Hofland to Feyenoord.

Wolfsburg struggled last season, finishing just outside the relegation places.

Former Bayern Munich coach Magath has been brought in to replace Klaus Augenthaler.
