Pintu sued for plundering relief materials

Police filed two cases against former BNP lawmaker from Lalbagh Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu on Sunday for misappropriating government relief material while another case was filed against former BNP lawmaker from Natore-4 constituency Mozammel Haq yesterday on charges of embezzlement of money.

The two cases against Pintu were filed with Kamrangirchar Police Station following recovery of 216 corrugated iron (CI) sheets meant for relief from two places at Kamrangirchar in the capital, reports our staff correspondent.

Some 110 CI sheets were seized from Abdul Awal College at Ashrafabad and 106 sheets from Shamsul Haq Market at Nabinagar, police said.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Motaleb filed a case in connection with the seizure of 110 CI sheets against Pintu and Sultanganj Union Parishad Chairman Haji Monir Hossain while SI Abdul Jalil lodged the other case in connection with misappropriation of 106 CI sheets against Pintu, Haji Monir, Shamsul Haque and his wife Kamala Begum.

Pintu was sent to jail on February 15 after he turned himself in to a Dhaka court to seek bail in two cases for attempted murder and theft. He has been in the custody since then.

UNB adds from Natore: Principal of Ahmedpur College Asaduzzaman yesterday filed the case with cognizance court-3 against ex-BNP lawmaker Mozammel Haq on charges of embezzlement of money and deception.

The principal stated in his complaint that ex-MP Mozammel Haq took Tk 2.5 lakh in 2001 and 2002 from him assuring him of help in introducing degree course in the college.

"But, instead of arranging approval for the course, he demanded Tk 2.5 lakh more later on. The college authority failed to give him the money and demanded that he return the money that was given him earlier. But he did not return the money and embezzled it," the complainant said.
