Cultural programme in Mymensingh


"Sandipon", a cultural organisation has been holding programmes every month for the last four years. Performed by eminent artistes of Mymensingh, the cultural programmes titled "Jalsha" has become an attraction for local music enthusiasts.

Held on the last Thursday of every month, the programme highlights classical songs. Late Motahar Hossain Bachhu, eminent cultural personality of Mymensingh initiated the monthly event.

The 52nd programme by Sandipon was held on June 28 at the Dolphin Complex auditorium in the district town.

The programme began with Tagore and Nazrul songs. Artistes of Udyadigangan, Alokdhara and Nazrul Academy recited poems and rendered songs. Tagore artiste Professor Sumita Naha and Nazrul singer Ustad Sunil Dhar sang at the programme. Among others, upcoming singers Jhuton Saha, Hafizur Rahman, Atiqur Rahman, Rashida Akhtar, Tushar, Apu and Aparna also performed at the function. Instrumentalists Madhusudan Roy, Subir Baran Dhar, Bishnupada Pal and Biplob accompanied the vocalists.

Captain (Retd) Mujibur Rahman, president of Mymensingh Sheba Niketan, delivered the welcome speech. Acting president of Sandipon, Md. Mahbub Hossain Sharif also spoke at the programme.
