Professor Abdus Selim read out an essay on Tagore titled "Chalachchitra O Rabindranath" compiled by eminent filmmaker Tareq Masud.

Members of Meghdut recited excerpts from Geetanjali and poems - Amar Praner Manush, Dui Bigha Jami, Hothat Dekha, Urbashi and more.

Noted recitors Kazi Arif, Pragna Laboni and artiste Sara Zaker recited Krisnokali, Brishti porey tapur tupur and Ami respectively. Shama Rahman and Mahbubul Haider rendered songs Aji tomaye abar chai shunabarey and Aji Bangladesher hridoy hotey.

"Rabindranath will remain a source of inspiration for Bengalis," said Professor Hafiz G.A. Siddiqui, vice chancellor of North South University. Professor Siddiqui presided over the programme. Professor Mansur Musa, former director general of Bangla Academy; Richard Sutherland, acting director of British Council, Bangladesh and Mosud Mannan, convenor of Tagore Society of Bangladesh also attended the programme.

Since 1980s', every year "Tagoreans" (Tagore enthusiasts) across the world observe one of the days between June 30 and July 12 as International Tagore Recitation Day. The occasion celebrates Tagore's formal introduction to the western world through a programme in Hampstead in 1912, featuring recitation of translation of Geetanjali, attended by noted international litterateurs including W.B. Yates. This year Tagoreans in Bangladesh celebrated June 30 as International Tagore Recitation Day.
