Search continues to rescue Danida staff

Security forces at Thanchhi are still conducting search and rescue operations for one of the abducted Danida employees.

First secretary of Danish embassy, Christian Krone Jørgensen, yesterday visited Thanchhi. However, the government or the Danish embassy sources did not make any comment on the visit.

The security forces launched a massive search and rescue operation after two Danida (Danish International Development Agency) employees including Project Officer Hossain Shahid Sumon were abducted from Thanchhi on Monday.

Heavy rain on Friday has forced the rescuers suspend their operation temporarily, sources in security forces said.

In the meantime at Bolipara BDR zonal headquarters, the security forces along with detectives have been quizzing seven NGO officials including Kirti Nishan Chakma, senior programme officer at Danida.

Four others have also been arrested in connection with the abduction, said another source.
