Sierra Leone helicopter crash kills 22


A privately-owned passenger helicopter that crashed in Sierra Leone killed at least 22 people, most of them Togolese sporting officials and fans, officials said Monday.

The Paramount Airlines helicopter exploded and caught fire while descending in preparation for landing at the country's main Lungi airport late Sunday and crash landed on the runway.

One person, a Russian pilot survived.

Sierra Leone transport minister Prince Harding tolf AFP that "an investigation is to be launched, but I am appealing for international support to get it under way."
