Joint forces raid Ruet: 5 students, outsider arrested

Joint forces arrested five students and an outsider during their raids on different student halls of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) on Sunday night.

They also recovered many electric circuits and equipments during the three-hour raids

which were carried out after being tipped-off that the students have stored huge bombs in their dormitories, campus sources said.

The arrestees are Muhammad Julfiker Ahmed, GM Motiur Rahman, Sajib Hossain, Faisal Ahmed, Sadekul Islam and an outsider Salim Hossain.

Officer-in-Charge Ferdous Ahmed of Motiher Police Station yesterday said they were arrested for interrogation as five powerful bombs were recovered form the Ruet campus and dormitories recently.

Four locally made bombs were recovered from the campus on May 22 and 24.

One of the bombs was wrapped in an aluminium sheet which contained some writings in the name of Jadid al Qaeda.

On June 02, another powerful bomb was recovered from a bathroom of Shaheed Salim Hall.

Fearing further raid, many resident students of different dormitories have left the campus.

Students Welfare Adviser Sayed Mafiz Uddin, who is also provost of Shaheed Salim Hall, said, "I was not informed about the raids earlier, and there is no specific allegation against the arrested students."
