Judiciary was not neutral in the past
Says law adviser
Unb, Dhaka
Law and Information Adviser Barrister Mainul Hosein yesterday said countless terrorists and corrupt people went unpunished as country's judiciary was not neutral in the past. "We must not forget that in dispensing justice there is no privileged class. It is wrong for the judiciary to treat some people as so mighty as to be above the law," he told a function of judges. The law adviser said justice must be done speedily, harshly yet compassionately. "Judicial process can't be unkind or without human face while punishing a guilty one." He made the remark while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 69th and 70th judicial administrative training course for assistant judges and senior assistant judges at the Judicial Administrative Training Institute (JATI) auditorium. JATI Director General Justice Hamidul Huq presided over the ceremony while its Director Ashraful Islam delivered the welcome address. Barrister Mainul urged all the judges to have the courage to conduct their duties independently to make separation of the judiciary from the executive meaningful. Twenty assistant judges and 20 senior assistant judges are participating in the course.
